Pool Information

Above Ground Pool Winterizing Instructions

  1. Prior to closing the pool make sure your water is chemically balanced. Adjust chemical levels if necessary. This is a very important step because chemically balanced water protects the pool from corrosion or scale build up that can occur during the period the pool is shut down. Your chemical level should be as follows:
    • pH: 7.2 – 7.6
    • Alkalinity: 80 - 120 PPM
    • Calcium Hardness: 175 – 250 PPM
    • Chlorine: 1 -3 PPM or Biguan 30 -50 PPM
  2. Remove all deck equipment. (ladders, rails, etc.)
  3. Brush down the sides and floor of your pool then vacuum. If you leave any debris or dirt in your pool stain can occur.

Routine Pool Chemical Maintenance

  1. Test pool chlorine & pH every other day.
    • Keep chlorine level at 1 PPM (Do not drop below this.)
    • Keep pH between 7.2 & 7.6. Adjust as needed.
  2. Put algaecide in pool once a week no matter what. (Do not add algaecide 24 hours before or after shocking.)
  3. Shock every 2 weeks or after heavy rains and pool parties.

Spring Opening of Pool

  1. Remove winter cover, fill pool to proper water level, hook up pump and start filtering pool water.
  2. Brush down pool walls and bottom.
  3. Vacuum pool and backwash filter.
  4. Test water, add chlorine stabilizer if needed. Start regular treatment of chlorine, shock, and algaecide. (Refer to regular pool maintenance sheet and follow steps listed.)

New pool chemical start up procedure

Chlorine Stabilizer

  • Add to pool through skimmer at rate of 1 lb. per every 4000 gallons of water. Forms a buffer to help hold chlorine in pool.

Chlorine (Sanitizer)

  • Best result is to keep between 1 to 2 PPM residual. Best to use 3" pucks in floater. Can put 1 in skimmer when boost is needed.

Shock Treatment (Oxidizer)

  • Removes organic wastes that get in pool.

Algaecide 60

  • Use as a preventative towards algae growth. Use weekly to prevent the growth of algae.
